I am making the original image available again as a print. This image was originally done in support of those in Hawaii in July of 2019 in their fight for their sacred mountain. A percentage of the proceeds from sales will go towards PIEAM (Pacific Islander Ethnic Art Museum in Long Beach) to support Pacific Islander Artists on our tribal lands.
 
The print will be matte glicee print on heavy weight art paper at 16" x 20"
 
"The desecration of sacred sites for big business, for science, for education, for housing, for religion, for food, for a great many things, are all acts of colonization when the original inhabitants are not part of the discussion or are ignored.
For them to see the stars, they must destroy our ways of seeing. For them to view the universe, they must destroy our connection to it. This is bigger than construction, it jeopardizes our very belief systems as Indigenous people.
We, as Tongva, were navigators who traveled to the channel islands and up and down the coasts. We have direct connections to the stars in our creation stories, our ceremonies and our daily life.
The original people of Hawaii are the same as us. They have history that predates any western contact or concepts. They are navigators. And they are protecting their relatives in peacefully blocking access to #maunakea
I stand with them in spirit in their fight to help #protectmaunakea.
I pray for the safety of the elders on the front lines and the protectors who have been arrested for protecting their family and upholding their sovereignty with the land. I pray for you all. I pray for the land. I pray for people to wake up on how detrimental this colonial stance is to the future of the earth and the humans who are here to take care it. We don't have much time left if we continue to allow the earth to be abused in this way."
